1-/1+ - with City Dance – United States of America 2010
Dancing with and without a partner … a look at the challenges, beauty, and inherent metaphors involved when adding or subtracting a dancers from movement. In the creation of this work, Mr. Morgan reflected on his time in Ramallah in 2009 and conversations he had with local people who were separated from their loved ones by checkpoints, walls and borders. He is utilizing +1/-1 to ask several questions: What happens when another person is added to a situation? What happens in the void left by an absent partner? How does one fill the void, or is it simply left empty?
This joint performance by CityDance Ensemble and Sareyyet Ramallah marks the first collaboration of this kind and the first time an American Dance Company has opened this festival. Mr. Morgan is extremely honored to be doing this work and thankful to the dancers of both companies, CityDance Ensemble’s Artistic Director Paul Gordan Emerson and Sareyyet Ramallah.
